Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process
Recirculating closed-loop cleaning
Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain acidity concentration is added, which circulates through the ash water pipes for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, the solution is continuously replenished with more acid. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out when the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.
Open path cleaning
No two ash pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only a single ash pipe should be used for open-circuit cleaning. The method involves connecting one end of the ash pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the liquid tank, and then injecting it into the ash pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, resulting in higher costs.
Continuous cleaning without shutdown
The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while the ash pipe is operating normally without interruption, simultaneously adding a specific quantity of ash-pipe running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent. This is an open-circuit cleaning method. The main function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of gas blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash-pipe cleaning.
The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaning agent based on the sludge water flow rate and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the sampling point at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be considered complete.
2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental protection, ease of operation, and safety.
The advantages of high-pressure water technology include:
(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipelines and heat exchanger bores can remove all scale and obstructions from inside the pipes, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, is fully capable of destroying hard scale and obstructions without causing any damage to the metal.
Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the pressure-bearing strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the cleaned substrate.
(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined action of water jet abrasion, splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.
Additionally, parts cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface chemical agents must be rinsed off with clean water.
(3) No Environmental Pollution: As high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce a large amount of dust like sandblasting, shot blasting, or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the atmosphere and harm health. It also does not generate a large amount of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet cleaning with pure water as the medium is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomization, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust from 80mg/m³ with other methods to below the national safety standards, thus causing no pollution.

Pipe Scale
(1) Classified by chemical composition, it can be divided into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.
(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and loose sediment that is easy to dislodge.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water precipitating and adhering to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, about 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to localized overheating, even leading to pipe explosion accidents; it accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline lime scale corrosion, and speeds up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
