Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash discharge pipelines to form a loop, creating a recirculation system with the cleaning pump station. A solution of a certain concentration is added, and it circulates within the ash water pipeline for cleaning. As the acid washing reaches a certain level, acid is continuously replenished. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to create a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out while the system is shut down, and it is complex and costly.

Preliminary Cleaning

No two gray pipes should form a loop during cleaning; only single-pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the gray pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a specific concentration of cleaning solution in the dosing tank, and then injecting it into the gray pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires the addition of cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous cleaning without shutdown

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while simultaneously introducing a specific quantity of ash conveying tube cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent, performing an open circuit cleaning. The main function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and ash deposits at a certain concentration and flow rate, while also enhancing its solubility in water, reducing the occurrence of gas blockages, and ensuring the quality of ash pipe cleaning.

The procedure is: Prior to cleaning, estimate the required acid quantity based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the descaling agent and pipeline cleaner based on the sludge water flow and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the front end of the sludge pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the acid flow rate. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the sludge pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
The advantages of high-pressure water technology include:

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality: The high-pressure water jet cleaning of pipe and heat exchanger bores can completely remove scale and blockages inside, revealing the metal substrate. With its immense energy and supersonic speed, the high-pressure water jet is fully capable of destroying hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the surface being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined crushing actions of water jet scouring, splitting, shearing, and grinding, scale can be quickly broken and removed, making the cleaning process several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening, simple mechanical, and manual methods.

Components cleaned with high-pressure water jetting do not require secondary cleaning; however, after chemical cleaning, the surface must be rinsed with clean water.

(3) Environmentally Friendly: Since high-pressure water jet cleaning uses pure water as the medium, it does not produce large amounts of dust like sandblasting or simple mechanical cleaning, which can pollute the air and harm health. Nor does it generate large quantities of waste liquid like some chemical cleaning methods, which can contaminate rivers, soil, and water quality. The water jet, using pure water, is odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. After atomizing the jet, it can also reduce the dust concentration in the work area, lowering atmospheric dust levels from 80mg/m³ using other methods to below the national safety standards, thereby preventing any pollution.


Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, it includes carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively.

(2) Classified by physical properties, there are two types: scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and pipe walls, and sediment that is loose and easily detached.
Lime scale primarily forms due to the salts like calcium and magnesium in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. Lime scale has a very low thermal conductivity, about 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. When lime scale accumulates on the boiler's heating surface, it significantly worsens the heat transfer efficiency and affects the boiler's performance; it can easily lead to the metal being damaged due to local overheating, even causing pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, leading to pipeline lime scale corrosion and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once lime scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
