Chemical Cleaning Scale Removal Process

Recirculating Closed Loop Cleaning

Recirculating cleaning utilizes two existing parallel ash pipeline lines to form a loop, which, together with the cleaning pump station, creates a recirculation system. A certain concentration of acidic solution is added, and the ash water flows in a recirculation process within the pipeline, continuously replenishing the acid solution as the acid washing decreases to a certain level. For short-distance single ash water pipelines, if conditions permit, a temporary pipeline can be laid to form a recirculation loop for cleaning. This process must be carried out during shutdown and is complex and costly.

Open Channel Cleaning

No two grey pipes can form a loop during cleaning; only single grey pipe open circuit cleaning is allowed. The method involves connecting one end of the grey pipe to the cleaning unit, continuously preparing a certain concentration of cleaning solution in the solution tank, and then injecting it into the grey pipe continuously or intermittently. This process requires additional cleaning equipment during shutdown, which increases costs.

Continuous operation cleaning

The process involves continuously injecting a certain amount of acidic solution while running the ash conveying pipeline to introduce ash running cleaning inhibitor and pipeline descaling agent for open circuit cleaning. The main function of the cleaning aids is to promote the reaction between the acidic solution and the ash scale at a certain concentration and flow rate, simultaneously enhancing its solubility in water and reducing air blockage, ensuring the quality of ash pipeline cleaning.

The procedure is as follows: Before cleaning, first estimate the required acid amount based on the total scale in the pipeline. Then, calculate the acid addition rate and the flow rate of the sludge pipe operation by considering the flow rate of the gray water and acidity. During cleaning, take a sample at the sampling point at the front of the gray pipe every 30 minutes to test the acidity and strictly control it by adjusting the flow rate of acid addition. In the later stage of cleaning, take a sample at the end of the gray pipe every 15 minutes to test the pH value. When the pH value reaches a certain level and remains unchanged for 30 minutes, the cleaning can be deemed complete.

2. High-pressure water jet cleaning equipment
High-pressure water jet cleaning offers advantages such as high efficiency, low cost, non-damaging to workpieces, environmental friendliness, ease of operation, and safety.
High-pressure water technology boasts the following advantages.

(1) Excellent Cleaning Quality - High-pressure water jet cleaning of pipes and heat exchanger bores can thoroughly remove scale and blockages from inside, revealing the metal substrate. The high-pressure water jet, with its immense energy and supersonic speed, can completely destroy hard scale and blockages without causing any damage to the metal.

Since the pressure of the high-pressure water is less than the compressive strength grade of metal, high-pressure cleaning will not damage the base being cleaned.

(2) Fast Cleaning Speed: Due to the combined effects of water jet washing, splitting, shearing, and grinding, scaling can be quickly broken and removed, which is several to ten times faster than traditional chemical methods, sandblasting and shot peening techniques, simple mechanical, and manual cleaning methods.

Pipe Scale

(1) Classified by chemical composition, they can be categorized into carbonate scale, sulfate scale, silicate scale, and mixed scale, etc. The main components of carbonate scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate; the main components of sulfate scale and silicate scale are calcium sulfate and silicate compounds, respectively; mixed scale is mostly a mixture of the above three types.

(2) Categorized by physical properties, there are two types: a hard scale that firmly adheres to the pot shell and tube walls, and a loose sediment that is easy to detach.
Scale is primarily formed due to the salts of calcium, magnesium, and other elements in the boiler feed water, which precipitate and adhere to the metal surface upon heating. The thermal conductivity of scale is very low, around 2 to 5 times that of ordinary steel. Scale deposited on the boiler's heating surface greatly deteriorates heat transfer efficiency, affecting the boiler's performance; it can easily cause metal materials to burn due to local overheating, even leading to pipe explosion accidents; it also accelerates galvanic corrosion, causing pipeline scale corrosion, and speeding up the damage to the heating surface. Once scale forms, it should be promptly removed using mechanical or chemical methods.
