Complexing agents can form complexes with metal ions. In electroplating solutions, except for a few types like acidic solutions for plating iron, nickel, chrome, and copper, which do not require or do not use complexing agents, most other electroplating solutions, such as alkaline solutions for plating silver, gold, copper, zinc, tin, and copper-tin alloys, do require complexing agents.
