Ethylene diamine tetra(methylene)phosphonic sodium, also known as EDTMPS, is an organic raw material with the molecular formula C6H12O12N2P4Na8 and a molecular weight of 612.13. EDTMPS is a nitrogen-containing organic polyphosphonic acid, a cathodic corrosion inhibitor, with a corrosion inhibition rate 3 to 5 times higher than that of inorganic polyphosphates. It is soluble in water, non-toxic, and non-polluting, with good chemical stability and temperature resistance, maintaining excellent scale inhibition at 200°C. In aqueous solution, EDTMPS can dissociate into eight cations and anions, allowing it to chelate with multiple metal ions, forming a large macromolecular network of monomer structures that are loosely dispersed in water, thereby disrupting the normal crystallization of calcium scale. EDTMPS is effective in preventing scale formation on calcium sulfate and barium sulfate. EDTMPS is used as a corrosion and scale inhibitor for circulating water and boiler water, as a chelating agent for cyanide-free electroplating, and as a chelating agent for textile dyeing and printing.
