I. Brand Overview

20Mn2 steel is an alloy structural steel with medium strength, high plasticity during cold deformation, good low-temperature properties, and fair weldability and machinability. Compared to carbon steel with the same carbon content, it has higher hardenability, with the critical hardenability diameter in oil reaching 4-15mm. However, it is sensitive to overheating, decarburization, and has a tendency to become brittle during tempering. After suitable heat treatment, 20Mn2 steel exhibits high tensile strength. II. Composition and Performance

20Mn2: Carbon C: 0.17~0.24, Silicon Si: 0.17~0.37, Manganese Mn: 1.40~1.80, Phosphorus P: ≤0.025, Sulfur S: ≤0.025, Chromium Cr: ≤0.30, Nickel Ni: ≤0.30, Copper Cu: ≤0.25

20Mn2: Tensile Strength ≥ 785 MPa

Yield Strength ≥ 590 MPa

Tensile elongation ≥ 10%

Section shrinkage rate ≥ 40%

Impact Absorption Work ≥ 47 Aku2/J

Hardness: Untreated ≤ 187HB

IV. Surface Quality

The surface of the steel should not have cracks, folds, scaling, inclusions, laminations, or embedded iron oxide scales. Local defects in the steel should be removed without causing any harmful effects on the steel's usage and ensuring the steel maintains its minimum allowable dimensions. The width of the removal should be at least five times the depth. Individual minor scratches and indentations, not exceeding half the nominal size tolerance from the actual dimensions, are permissible.

V. Application Prospects

20Mn2 is used to manufacture carburized parts with low surface and core requirements, having cross-sectional diameters less than 50mm, such as small gears and shafts for automotive and tractor manufacturing, in place of 20Cr steel. It is also suitable for low-demand piston pins, cross pins, diesel engine sleeves, valve stems, transmission control rods, steel sleeves, and more. Additionally, this steel can be used to produce riveted parts and screws, bolts, and nuts in both hot-rolled and normalized conditions.
