LED street lighting has a broader application range compared to other light sources: Different areas of road illumination have different criteria for light sources, such as motor vehicle traffic areas primarily considering brightness, total luminance uniformity, longitudinal luminance uniformity, control of disability glare, discomfort glare control, non-dimming and inspection of luminaires, and intersections mainly considering illuminance, illuminance uniformity, and control of discomfort glare. LED light sources offer features such as non-dimming, high freedom of light control and long-distance projection, high luminous efficiency, high color rendering index, diverse color and color temperature, making the application range of LED street lighting wider than that of other light sources.

2. LED streetlights cause less light pollution for residents and drivers: Compared to high-pressure sodium lamps, the precise control of light by LED streetlights reduces light pollution for both residents and drivers. Figure 1 illustrates the effects of halo and scattered light from different types of lighting fixtures on the surrounding residential buildings. On the left is a high-pressure sodium lamp, and on the right is an LED streetlight.
3. LED Street Lights Create Safer and Comfortable Road Environments: From the perspective of creating a comfortable light environment, LED street lights effectively control the intensity of light directed at the eyes, thereby creating safer and more comfortable road and tunnel lighting environments. LED street lights are adjustable and controllable, and when integrated with smart cities, they have far outperformed high-pressure sodium lamps in terms of capability.
LED streetlights offer higher efficiency and energy savings: In terms of light efficiency, high-pressure sodium lamps lose some light within the shell and towards non-effective areas, whereas LED streetlights can distribute light through lenses to the required zones.
Of course, there are many other advantages to LED streetlights that I won't go into detail about. If you have a need for streetlight installation in the near future, I personally recommend opting for LED streetlights with a high cost-performance ratio.
