Modern life moves at a fast pace, and washing machines have become a common tool for daily laundry. However, despite their convenience and speed, the clothes always seem less clean than when washed by hand, and they tend to get harder with each wash.
Think back to every time you wash clothes; don't you just dump in the laundry detergent after throwing in the clothes, then leave the rest to the washing machine?
Laundry machines may be convenient, but they're not all-encompassing. Even with machine washing, there are many details to pay attention to; otherwise, you waste water, electricity, and time, and your clothes won't be clean, plus they're prone to damage. Isn't that a real shame?
01 Use too much laundry detergent
Many people believe that using more laundry detergent will result in cleaner clothes, but that's not necessarily true. Typically, the laundry detergent or powder we purchase will clearly indicate the recommended usage amount, so simply use it according to the amount of clothes you need to wash.
Whether clothes are washed clean has no direct relation to the amount of detergent used. In fact, using too much detergent and not rinsing it thoroughly can cause clothes to become harder and more worn over time.
If you wash your clothes daily, opt for a gentler detergent and use as little as possible.
02 Prefer to Wash Clothes with Warm Water
The effectiveness of using warm water to remove stains is generally better than cold water; however, warm water should not be considered universally superior. The choice should depend on the fabric material of the clothing.
Typically, the water temperature for cotton fabrics is between 40℃-50℃, while woolen garments should be washed at around 35℃. Mismanaging the water temperature can only harm your clothes.
03 Over-soaking clothes
Many people pre-soak their laundry before washing, believing that soaking the clothes can help dissolve stains. However, it's important to note that the soaking time should not be too long.
Leaving clothes soaked for too long not only causes them to accumulate unpleasant odors, but also leads to severe color fading and fabric aging. Therefore, it is recommended not to do so, as 15-20 minutes of soaking is sufficient.
