How to Determine the Quality of Deslagging Agents

The performance of slag removers is reflected in several aspects such as slag removal efficiency, usage, dosage, and iron loss, which can be judged through the following points:

1. Simple to use; no need to spread evenly.

2. Free from substances that alter the composition of molten iron, to prevent affecting the cast iron's properties.

3. After cooling, the slag becomes brittle, making it easier to recover the entrapped iron.

4. Dosage: Currently, the recommended dosage is 2 to 3 kilograms of slagging agent per ton of molten iron.

5. Quick to react, with a certain degree of expansion, quick to project, no need for vigorous stirring.

6. Dust-free slag agent, improves working environment, free of toxic substances, reduces workers' occupational risks.

7. Inclusion Loss: The more slag is removed with the molten iron, the greater the loss. A good deslagging agent can keep the iron loss around 1 kilogram per ton of molten iron processed.

8. The slag remover should have a certain粘性 when placed into the molten iron ladle, allowing it to aggregate into piles with sufficient strength for easy removal or picking out in one go, thereby saving slag removal time (about 12 seconds) and reducing electrical energy consumption (electric furnace and temperature decrease, cupola molten iron ladle).

The slagging agent possesses excellent slag capturing properties. When sprinkled onto the surface of the metal liquid, it expands under high temperatures to form a thick, porous active material. It can absorb impurities in the metal liquid and create a thin shell, effectively collecting and removing slag. This is beneficial for the purification of molten steel and iron, enhancing the quality of castings.

De-slagging agents are primarily used in the melting processes of cast steel, cast iron, alloy steel, special steel, and non-ferrous castings. Slag removal is a crucial operation in the refining process. The use of de-slagging agents in ladles, crucible furnaces, reverberatory furnaces, and electric furnaces enables the slag to quickly form a shell that is easily separated from the molten metal, facilitating clean slag removal and ensuring the purity of the melt.
