The purpose of the street awnings is to provide shelter from rain and sun for non-motorized vehicle riders waiting to cross, thus avoiding and reducing violations of traffic lights by non-motorized vehicles. A brand new square awning stand has been installed on the non-motorized vehicle lane at the intersection, with the words "Civilized Traffic, Harmonious Travel" displayed. Many pedestrians stop under the awning to enjoy the shade while waiting for the traffic lights. Once the green light appears, the pedestrians cross the intersection in an orderly manner, with no one running the red light.

According to the traffic patrol officer at the intersection, pedestrians used to run red lights to avoid sun exposure and getting their clothes wet during signal waiting times. It was nearly impossible to stop them. Since the installation of sunshades, people have become more civilized, waiting under the shades for the signals with self-discipline, and jaywalking has nearly been eliminated. This small sunshade effectively tackles the persistent issue of pedestrians running red lights, truly a win-win situation and very worthy of learning and reference.
