Overview of Ultrasonic Welding Head Motion

The ultrasonic welding machine consists of three main parts: the power supply, the ultrasonic transducer system, and the ultrasonic generator. Each welding machine also requires a mechanical system to control the accuracy of the welding head movement. Whether it's the issue of the foil ultrasonic metal welding machine's welding head lifting and lowering, or the rapid lateral movement problem of the ultrasonic plastic welding machine, these are all considerations for the machine's operation.


The movement of the welding head in ultrasonic welding machines mainly includes lifting, lateral, welding wheel, and rotational movements. First, let's examine the lifting movement: during the ultrasonic metal welding process of foil in foil welding machines, after the foil is rolled with ultrasound along its width, the welding head should be elevated to a certain height.


Firstly, remove the pressure from the welding wheel on the welding plate; secondly, elevate the welding head so that the low point of the welding wheel exceeds the surface of the uncoiler guide roller, thereby achieving the reversal of the welding head.


The lateral movement of the ultrasonic welding machine is designed to meet the speed requirements ranging from 0.7 to 2.7 meters per minute for welding speed. The lateral movement speed is adjusted by the mechanical transmission of the linear bearing housing and nut of the main chain drive. To ensure the mechanical accuracy of the lateral movement of the welding joint, the second-generation ultrasonic plastic welding machines commonly used in our country adopt a design method where the bearings are made into double rods, offering high precision and matching with the linear motion.


The movement of the welding wheel is achieved by the engagement of a set of gears on the welding head with a fixed rack, converting the linear motion of the welding head into synchronous rotation of the welding wheel. The rotational motion is a rolling spline shaft, driven by a swing cylinder, connected to and rotating with the welding head to achieve the rotation of the welding head.


Four types of son weld head movements directly impact welding quality. By understanding the four different welding movements, we can develop corresponding improvement plans, such as the bearing upgrade for the second-generation ultrasonic plastic welder. It is crucial to develop a good mechanical control system for the weld head, controlling the movements of various welding machines like the ultrasonic metal welder. The reliability and proper adjustment of this mechanical system in ultrasonic welders is a key factor in ensuring weld head quality.
