Knowledge of Beer Boxes
Beer boxes are paper boxes made by pressing and shaping cardboard through a die-cutting machine, primarily composed of corrugated cardboard.
Beer boxes come in various types such as bottom-locked, double-insertion, and airplane boxes, featuring lightweight, easy transportation and storage, and cost-effectiveness. Each type is used for different product packaging based on their unique characteristics.
Manufacturing Process
1. Paper selection: Standard beer box wrapping paper is typically made from double copper and matte copper paper, with a weight of around 128G, 105G, or 157G. Rarely do beer boxes use wrapping paper over 200G, as thicker paper can cause bubbles during lamination and may appear dull aesthetically. The lamination paper is chosen based on customer requirements and is commonly referred to as gray board or gray card paper.
2. Die-cutting: Modern beer boxes emphasize aesthetics, thus the colors used in the die-cutting are diverse and colorful. Typically, a single style of beer box not only features the basic four colors but also includes several spot colors, such as gold and silver, which are considered spot colors.
3. Die-cutting is a crucial process in printing, and for accurate die-cutting, the die must be precise. Inaccurate die-cutting, misalignment, or incomplete cuts can all affect subsequent processing.
4. Printing: Beer boxes are only printed with packaging paper; the lamination is not printed and is at most dyed. Since beer boxes are outer packaging boxes, their printing requires high-quality craftsmanship and is very sensitive to color discrepancies, ink spots, and other defects that affect aesthetics.
5. Surface Treatment: The packaging paper of beer boxes usually requires surface treatment, common processes include glossy coating, matte coating, UV coating, glossy varnish, and matte varnish.
6. Mounting: Generally, printed materials are mounted after being die-cut, but beer boxes are an exception—they are die-cut first, then mounted. This is to prevent damaging the packaging paper and to ensure the overall aesthetic appeal of the beer box. The mounting paper for beer boxes must be handcrafted to achieve a certain level of beauty.
7. Punching: Punch where necessary, and for areas not to be punched, wipe off the surface adhesive, then the product is ready for packaging and shipment.
