Corrugated boxes and single-layer cardboard boxes are widely used packaging materials, available in various sizes and models, differing in the type of material used.
Cardboard boxes are commonly available in 3, 5, and less frequently in 7-ply. The layers include inner paper, corrugated paper, core paper, and surface paper. The inner and surface papers can be kraft paper or kraft paper, the core paper is made of corrugated paper, and the colors and textures of various papers differ. Additionally, papers produced by different manufacturers also vary in color and texture.
Corrugated cardboard is made by bonding together face paper, back paper, fluting paper, and corrugated paper processed into a wavy fluting. Depending on the requirements of product packaging, corrugated cardboard can be processed into single-faced, three-layer, five-layer, seven-layer, eleven-layer, and other types of corrugated cardboard.
Corrugated boards with different wave shapes exhibit varying functionalities. Even with the same quality of face and back papers, the performance of the corrugated board varies due to the differences in wave shape. The internationally recognized corrugated wave shapes are categorized into four types: A-wave, C-wave, B-wave, and E-wave. Their technical specifications and requirements are listed in Table 1. A-wave corrugated boards offer good cushioning and elasticity, with C-wave being slightly less than A-wave. However, they have higher rigidity and shock resistance than A-wave. B-wave corrugated boards have a higher density, resulting in a flat surface and high compressive strength, suitable for printing. E-wave corrugated boards, due to their thinness and density, demonstrate increased rigidity.
