Corrugated boxes and single-layer cardboard boxes are widely used packaging products, available in various sizes and models, depending on the materials used.
Corrugated boxes are commonly available in 3, 5, and less frequently in 7 layers. The layers include inner paper, corrugated paper, core paper, and outer paper. The inner and outer papers can be kraft paper or brown paper, while the core paper is made of corrugated paper. The colors and textures of various papers differ, as do those produced by different manufacturers (color and texture).
Corrugated cardboard is made by bonding together face paper, back paper, fluting paper, and corrugated paper that has been processed into a wavy fluting. Depending on the requirements of product packaging, corrugated cardboard can be processed into single-faced, three-layer, five-layer, seven-layer, eleven-layer, and other types of corrugated cardboard.
Wavy corrugations form different types of corrugated board, each with unique functionalities. Even with the same quality of face and back papers, the performance of the corrugated board varies due to the difference in corrugation shapes. The internationally recognized corrugation types are divided into four: A-type, C-type, B-type, and E-type. Their technical specifications and requirements are listed in Table 1. A-type corrugated board offers good cushioning and elasticity, with C-type being slightly less than A-type. However, it has better rigidity and shock resistance. B-type has a higher density, resulting in a flat surface on the corrugated board, high compressive strength, and is suitable for printing. E-type, being thin and dense, exhibits greater stiffness.
