The Working Principle of Anti-Loosening Nuts

Anti-loose nuts are a common type of anti-loose fastener. They typically achieve anti-loosening effects through friction and resistance, although there are not only these methods. Today, I'll introduce four methods of anti-loose nuts and their principles.

Friction Lock Prevention

Anti-friction locking is a widely used anti-loosening method. Its principle is to utilize the pressure generated between the locking nuts to produce frictional force that can prevent the relative rotation of the locking nuts, thereby achieving the anti-loosening effect. Examples include self-locking nuts, double nuts, and so on.

2. Mechanical Anti-Loosening

Mechanical anti-loosening involves directly limiting the relative rotation of the locking nut assembly by using a locking nut component. As we commonly see, the locking washer utilizes this principle for its implementation.

3. Rivet Locking Prevention

Bolt tensioning prevention utilizes methods such as punch marking, welding, and adhesive bonding to make the locknut lose its motion component characteristics and form an irreversible connection. However, this method has undeniable drawbacks; not only can the bolt rod be used only once, but it is also difficult to disassemble, requiring the destruction of the bolt to remove it.

4. Construct anti-loosening

The anti-loosening construction, also known as the Thompson locking nut, utilizes the inherent characteristics of the thread to achieve anti-loosening. It combines both left-hand and right-hand spiral lines within a single thread segment, possessing the features of both left-hand and right-hand threads, and can be matched with either left-hand or right-hand threads.
