The solution heat treatment of stainless steel castings involves heating the castings to a specific temperature to achieve a solid solution state, followed by cooling over an appropriate duration to meet the desired material properties and microstructure requirements.

The primary objectives of solid solution treatment include the following aspects:

Restoring Material Uniformity: During the production of stainless steel castings, uneven microstructures or precipitates may form due to inconsistent tissue or varying cooling rates. Solution heat treatment can correct these non-uniform areas through heating and cooling, resulting in a more uniform material structure and enhancing its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.

2. Enhance Material Hardness and Strength: Solid solution treatment can improve the refinement of grains by increasing the solid solution temperature and holding time, thereby enhancing the material's hardness and strength. Post-solid solution treated stainless steel castings feature smaller grain sizes and more grain boundaries, which in turn improve the material's toughness and strengthening effects.

3. Enhanced Corrosion Resistance of Materials: During the solid solution treatment process, stainless steel castings are capable of dissolving metal ions produced into the electrolyte, thereby promoting the formation of passive films. Solid solution treatment can eliminate the corrosion-sensitive intercrystalline phases, improve the material's corrosion resistance, and reduce material loss in corrosive mediums.

4. Enhancing Material Processing Performance: Solution heat treatment can anneal stainless steel castings, eliminating work hardening and residual stress, thereby improving the material's processing performance. This boosts the material's plasticity and machinability, making it easier for subsequent processing and shaping.
