Diesel generators typically do not shut down spontaneously during operation unless operated improperly or if they run for extended periods without timely maintenance, leading to a series of shutdown scenarios. Below, we'll discuss the various causes of such occurrences and provide guidance on how to address them.
1. The exhaust pipe of the diesel generator emits black smoke, the throttle fails to operate normally, and the engine still stalls: This condition is primarily caused by the poor combustion of diesel in the environmental protection machinery of the diesel engine. The primary cause is a severely blocked air filter, which obstructs the intake port, leading to insufficient air. It is necessary to clean the air filter and clear the intake pipe to ensure adequate air supply.
2. After the machine is shut down, continued operation can be unstable and accompanied by abnormal knocking sounds. This phenomenon is a sudden mechanical failure. Common causes include: crankshaft cracking, piston pin cracking, connecting rod bolts loosening or cracking, valve locking parts, valve spring falling off, valve spring or valve stem damage, leading to valve drop. If such a condition is found during the generator's operation, it should be immediately sealed for inspection to prevent major mechanical accidents, and it can be sent to a professional diesel generator repair facility for examination.
Dongguan Diesel Generator
When the engine is intentionally turned off, the speed suddenly drops and the exhaust pipe emits black smoke. This phenomenon is primarily caused by the engine's sudden high resistance. The reasons are: lack of coolant in the cooling system, leading to engine overheating and causing the piston to be drawn into the cylinder bore. Damage to the rod end, jamming, poor lubrication, burning of shaft or valve assembly parts, consequently causing the diesel generator to settle. It is necessary to strengthen the lubrication system, protect the cooling system, and add lubricating oil and coolant.
When the diesel generator shuts down, the engine sounds muffled, operation is difficult, and black smoke is emitted. This indicates an overload of the diesel engine.
5. No abnormalities were present before the engine was manually shut off; the flame suddenly extinguished. This indicates that either the fuel pump or injector suddenly ceased fuel supply. Possible causes include: a cracked plunger spring, the plunger being jammed by debris, the injector needle being stuck, a broken pressure spring, the fuel pump operating rod and its connecting pin being removed, the fuel retaining bolt, pump drive shaft, and drive plate being loosened. The key on the shaft became flat due to loosening, causing the drive shaft or drive plate to slip, thereby preventing the drive shaft from operating the fuel pump.
6. During the engine shutdown, the engine speed gradually decreases, accompanied by abnormal sounds from the Dongguan diesel generator and exhaust gas color. This indicates that due to the diesel in the fuel tank being depleted, the tank valve has been opened, the tank vent, fuel filter, and oil pump are blocked, or the fuel line is obstructed, thereby not sealing the single-cylinder diesel engine in the air, leading to "air resistance" (which is accompanied by unstable speed before shutdown). Solution: Inspect the low-pressure fuel line.
