The process of binding the hardcover book block is similar to that of the softcover in terms of folding,帖帖, and stitching. However, special processing for the hardcover book block is also required, which mainly includes: leveling, rounding, creating a ridge, applying cheesecloth, and attaching flowers.
Leveling
The process was carried out on the leveling machine. After compaction, the core book is thinner than before, and it is smooth and firm, making it easier for further processing in the next stage.
(2) Peeling round
By rounding the spine of the book block with a rounding machine, the entire book's spine is shaped into an arc, allowing the booklets to be staggered and creating an inward curve at the edge for easier flipping. Rounding also strengthens the book block, facilitates its attachment to the cover, and enhances the binding quality.
Roof Ridge
To prevent the core of the book from returning to its original circular shape after rounding, the core is揉倒and shaped.
(4) Apply bandages
On the spine of the book, paste gauze or cardboard strips to cover the stitched edges, thereby reinforcing the spine for added durability.
(5) Sticker Heads
Also known as spine heading, it involves attaching brocade fabric or other textiles to the ends of the book's spine to reinforce the entire book and add decorative elements to the book's core. High-quality hardcover books are equipped with bookmark ribbons, which are first attached to the canvas on the spine before the heading flowers are applied. After the leather binding mechanism of the hardcover book is completed, it must be dried to remove moisture from the adhesive used during the sealing process, ensuring the normal progression of subsequent steps. There are two methods of drying: natural drying and artificial drying. Natural drying takes longer. Artificial drying is quicker and can be achieved through the use of circulating air, infrared drying, high-frequency drying, and other methods. Printing factories in our country mostly use natural drying methods. It is primarily used in the gold stamping processing of trademarks, packaging boxes, greeting cards, tote bags, wall calendars in the paper product packaging and decoration industry, as well as in the perfect binding of notebooks, wall calendars, and desk calendars.
