An electric cylinder is a heavy-duty cylinder with a long stroke, capable of withstanding significant lateral and axial forces, featuring a simple structure and ease of use. It can withstand lateral forces and is designed for applications requiring a large stroke. The electric cylinder includes a gearbox, cylinder barrel, push rod, ball screw support device, a non-rotational guide device positioned between the cylinder barrel and push rod, a series of connected servo motors, a reducer, synchronized gears set within the gearbox, and ball screws. One end of the cylinder barrel is connected to the gearbox; the push rod is fixed at one end within the cylinder barrel to the nut mounted on the ball screw. The ball screw is connected to the gearbox and push rod via the support device, and it drives the push rod to move linearly relative to the cylinder barrel under the action of the non-rotational guide device.

Servo electric cylinders operate seamlessly in extreme environments, performing high-intensity, high-speed operations, precise positioning, navigation, stable movement, and low noise during prolonged use. As a result, they are widely used in the automotive industry, electronics, electrical automation manufacturing, rolling bearing production, electric motor manufacturing, electromechanical manufacturing, and centrifugal pump production.

Many of our users have suspended items from the extending rod of the servo electric cylinder to push them out, which creates a force known as the lateral force of the servo electric cylinder. Next, let's understand the radial force of the servo electric cylinder.

Lateral Force: Generally refers to the force acting on a cylindrical object, which passes through the center of the object's cross-section and is perpendicular to the object's axis, or the force acting on a spherical object that passes through the center of the sphere, known as radial force. In simpler terms, it is the force acting in the direction of the diameter.

What is the lateral force that servo electric cylinders can withstand?

In many cases, when our company's engineers design systems using servo electric cylinders, if the radial force of the servo cylinder can support up to 10KG, there may be situations where the overall understanding of the servo cylinder is not clear among some engineers, leading to the radial force exceeding this limit. In such scenarios, the servo cylinder would not be able to meet the user's requirements. The purpose of a servo electric cylinder is to push or pull objects up and down; using it to hang a load on the cylinder's screw can cause bending or even breaking of the screw if the load exceeds 10KG. If it's necessary to utilize the radial force of the servo cylinder for lighter loads, an guide device can be added to the cylinder to increase its load-bearing capacity.
