Cautionary Notes for Cable Installation in Electrical Wiring

Electric installation is one of the key infrastructure projects, essential for the well-being of every rural community. Regardless of the scale of construction projects, whether large or small, the issue of cables is a core concern throughout the process. Moreover, cable engineering directly impacts personal safety, necessitating high priority attention.

What are the precautions to take during cable construction?

Mechanical damage caused by bending of power cables:

Due to the larger outer diameter of power cables, transportation and laying are more challenging. Power cables also have strict requirements for turning radii. During cable construction, it is essential to minimize the torque the cable experiences. When turning the cable or making allowances for excess cable, ensure the cable remains in a natural bend to prevent internal mechanical damage.

2. Large Current Power Cable-Induced Eddy Currents

During construction, power cables may use steel supports, steel sheaths, or cable clips with overhead laying. Any steel (iron) closed loop formed around the power cable may generate eddy currents, especially in high current power cable systems where eddy currents are more pronounced. Therefore, the power engineering company advises that measures must be taken during cable construction to prevent the formation of a steel (iron) closed loop around the cable to avoid the occurrence of eddy current phenomena.

3. Be mindful of moisture prevention for electrical cables.

It is understood that most faults in medium and low-voltage power cables occur at the intermediate joints and terminal heads. These faults are primarily due to poor sealing and moisture intrusion, which lead to a decrease in insulation strength. Since medium and low-voltage power cable networks often use a branching supply method, with a large number of terminal heads, ensuring proper sealing and blocking of both terminal heads and intermediate joints is a crucial measure for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the cables.
