What's Causing the Heavy Object to Fall from the Double Girder Gantry Crane?

The double girder overhead crane boasts strong load-bearing capacity, large span, and excellent overall stability. It comes in a variety of types, but it is heavier and more expensive than a single girder overhead crane of the same lifting capacity. Depending on the main girder structure, it can be further divided into box girder and truss types, with the box girder being more commonly used.

During the operation of the double girder overhead crane, the occurrence of heavy objects spontaneously falling is often due to the failure of the braking pads on the lifting equipment. If the braking pads fail to reach the required torque, it can result in the lifting capacity not reaching the rated capacity, even causing spontaneous falling of heavy objects. It is imperative to replace or adjust the brake promptly.

However, in certain special cases, the phenomenon of heavy objects falling on their own does occur. The two parts of the double girder overhead crane that have direct contact with the heavy objects are the chain and the hoist hook. Therefore, we need to focus our analysis on these two aspects.

Hanging heavy objects on the hook tip can easily lead to unhooking accidents during operation, resulting in the dangerous phenomenon of heavy objects falling freely.

2. Failing to replace chains that are cracked or damaged in a timely manner poses a risk, as it may lead to chain breakage during operation, potentially causing heavy objects to fall.

3. The chain welding joint is a critical area; failure of the welding joint can lead to the collapse of heavy loads. The brake of the double girder overhead crane equipped with a chain hoist failed, causing the heavy load to drop when it reached a certain height but could not be securely held.

The double girder overhead crane can be paired with an industrial heavy-duty anti-fall device. This device can automatically lock in the event of a sudden cargo drop, ensuring the safety of the cargo on the crane. Should you have any procurement needs, please feel free to contact us for inquiries.
