In the microcontroller industry, you often hear the term "microcontroller burning." This is a process that needs to be carried out during the microcontroller development process. Only after the microcontroller is burned can it realize its functions. So, what does "microcontroller burning" mean? Follow Halor, and we believe you'll understand after reading this article.

Generally, manufacturers purchase various programmable ICs from semiconductor suppliers, which have blank data areas. Before assembly, they use an IC programmer to write the new control program and data onto the ICs. This is a crucial process that is even more important than IC testing, typically carried out by electronic product manufacturers. It is also a stage in the production process where errors are more likely to occur and requires extensive debugging and correction.

Microcontroller programming refers to the process of embedding a program into a microcontroller, which acts as a main control chip. To function, it requires software to miniaturize all components into a single or several integrated circuits. An integrated circuit can receive encoded commands at one or more ends, execute these commands, and output signals that describe its state. Therefore, the process of storing the program into the chip is called chip programming.

When programming, be mindful of any burning restrictions on the microcontroller. Currently, there are many single-chip controllers (SINGLE MCU) that can be programmed once or multiple times using their respective programmers. MCUs that can only be programmed once are referred to as OTP microcontrollers, while their counterpart, the MTP microcontroller, allows for multiple erasable and programmable burning.
