How to effectively eliminate deformation during riveting with pneumatic rivet guns?
1. Knock repair involves striking the deformed areas with a wooden hammer or rubber hammer. For local dents and bulges, strikes can be made from the inside out and vice versa. Depending on the situation, a wooden block can be placed against the back. The force and area of the strike are determined by the structure and degree of deformation. However, it is not advisable to strike at one spot for too long to avoid creating vibrations, and it is imperative to avoid damaging materials or compromising the connection strength.
2. For minor concave areas, to ensure coordination and accuracy of the shape, within the scope allowed by the pattern and technical conditions, the deformed part can be broken down. Then, appropriate thickness shims with beveled ends can be inserted between the frame and the skin, and re-drilled and riveted.
3. In the case of ailerons like those on a certain aircraft, where the wingtip section always twists downward towards the lower wing surface, after the lower wing skin is riveted, inspect the twist. Depending on the degree of deformation, add a shim of appropriate thickness between the lower wing skin and the rib at the wingtip trailing edge. This creates a pre-tensioned reverse deformation towards the upper wing surface. Then rivet the wing skin. After releasing the constraints, the product will spring back to a position close to the correct one.
4. For certain materials, such as high-strength aluminum alloys, cold correction is not permitted, and only the contents of the heat correction project may be used. It is mandatory to strictly adhere to the technical documents approved by relevant authorities. All riveting equipment, riveting tools, riveting materials, and operating methods must comply with the specifications of the technical manual.
5. To eliminate skin vibrations, use reinforced strips with small curved edges. Place them at the vibration points, inserting the thin ends between the frame and skin. Then, secure them to the skin with an appropriate number of rivets. The number of reinforced areas should not exceed the specifications in the design and technical conditions. For minor vibrations, use methods such as applying glass cloth or foam blocks.
