Commonly Overlooked Issues When Installing DC Power Outlets

In our daily lives, household appliances have become increasingly indispensable, making DC power outlets a must-have. However, many people are not well-informed about the safety basics of power outlets, and improper usage may pose risks to homes. Let's take a look at some common issues that are often overlooked during the installation of DC power outlets.

One: Using a single power outlet for multiple appliances can lead to overloading, potentially causing fires. High-power household appliances like air conditioners, washing machines, and range hoods should have their own power outlets. Generally, it is recommended to install four sets of outlets in bedrooms, one set per every 2.5 square meters in living rooms, and one set per every 1.2 square meters in kitchens.

Secondly, the installation of DC power socket wiring: the power wire must use copper wire cross-section.

1. Studies have shown that homes using aluminum wiring have electrical fire rates several times higher than those with copper wiring. If you reside in an older house, it's crucial to replace the original aluminum wiring with copper. This is because aluminum is prone to oxidation, which can easily cause sparks at the joints.

2. Many families opt for concealed wiring and pipe installations for aesthetic reasons. Xia Dong cautions that when wiring, one must adhere to the principle of "hot wire into the switch, neutral wire into the light head," and also install a leakage protection device in the outlets.

Three: Low Placement of DC Power Outlets: Many households install outlets at lower, concealed positions to avoid an unattractive appearance. However, this can easily lead to water splashing into the outlets while mopping, potentially causing electric leakage accidents. Industry regulations state that surface-mounted outlets should be no less than 1.8 meters from the ground, while concealed outlets should not be lower than 0.3 meters. Outlets in kitchens and bathrooms should be at least 1.5 meters above the ground, and air conditioner outlets should be at least 2 meters above.

Four: Lack of protection for DC power outlets: As there is often water and oil smoke in kitchens and bathrooms, splash-proof boxes or plastic guards should be installed on the outlet panels to effectively prevent short circuits caused by oil stains and moisture. For families with children, to prevent children from touching the outlet holes with their fingers or poking them with metal objects, safety outlets with protective guards should be chosen.

Five: Single Circuit Only: Most old houses have only one circuit, so if any wire shorts out, the power supply for the entire room will be paralyzed. Therefore, it's generally advisable to choose a power outlet with two to three circuits.
