Fur felt is widely used in the making of lining for overcoats and fur collars due to its many excellent properties, such as its fluffy, flat texture and elasticity, making it an ideal choice for winter wear. Let's take a closer look at what fur felt is made of, as well as its pros and cons.

The plush, fluffy fabric, resembling fur, is commonly known as "Haihu绒." Its front side is covered with dense tufts of fibers, offering a full and smooth texture with a lustrous, elastic feel and excellent thermal properties. The weight ranges from 430 to 850 g/m², with the fiber height typically between 3 to 20 mm. It is primarily used for making overcoats, linings, collars, winter hats, plush toys, and can also be applied in interior decoration and industrial applications.

The woven plush is made from three sets of yarns. Cotton yarn is used for the warp and weft; the raised warp is made of fine wool yarn or synthetic fiber. The two sets of cotton warp and weft yarns are woven in plain weave to form the upper and lower base cloths, with the pile yarn connecting between the upper and lower base cloths to create a double-layered plush blank.

The double-layer plush is cut into two pieces of plush fabric using a shearing blade on the shearing machine, then the plush yarn is carded into fluffy single fibers with a plush carding machine, and the surface of the plush fibers is trimmed flat with a shearing machine to form plain plush.

Plain long-fiber plush can be processed through screen printing, steam fixation, washing out the sizing, and dehydrating and drying to create various animal skin patterned long-fiber plush. It also utilizes the characteristics of different thickness, cross-section, and shrinkage performance of synthetic fibers, adding processes such as heat shrinkage, ironing or balling, and brushing. It can be made into long-fiber plush with mixed textures of coarse bristles and fine wool, resembling various animal skins or lamb skins.

The Advantages of Fleece

Environmental friendliness: Any fabric must have a certain level of environmental sustainability. Since it is used for clothing that others will wear, it must be healthy and environmentally friendly, making it suitable for purchase and clothing production. Therefore, the characteristics of the fluffy fabric must inherently possess environmental sustainability.

Warmth Retention: In these types of fabrics, warmth retention is a necessity; otherwise, they wouldn't be widely used in winter clothing. Therefore, from this perspective, the characteristics of plush fabric must inherently include warmth retention.

Breathability: Even for winter clothing, the fabric must have some level of breathability. Only with good breathability can thick winter garments be more comfortable to wear.

The drawbacks of plush fabric

The main drawback of plush fabric is that the nap can shed after shearing, but this is a common issue with plush fabrics and can be alleviated with a few washes. Secondly, the fabric is not as easy to manage and wash as cotton or linen, so it's important to control the washing intensity.

That concludes our coverage on plush fabric and its pros and cons. We hope this has been helpful to you.
