Common flagpoles are typically installed on platforms located about 15 meters in front of buildings. There are also a few flagpoles that are installed in the middle or above buildings or structures. So, does installing a flagpole require the installation of lightning rods?
Lightning is a natural phenomenon, but its occurrence can severely threaten people's lives and property safety. Should we install lightning protection grounding when setting up flagpoles? Consider the following two aspects to determine whether lightning protection grounding is necessary.
In Case One: The flagpole is installed in front of a location higher than the flagpole itself, forming an approximate 45-degree angle with the building. As all high-rise buildings now come equipped with lightning protection devices, no lightning grounding work is required for the flagpole installation in this scenario.
In scenario two: when the flagpole is installed at the top of a building or higher than the structure, or on an open square without surrounding buildings, these three situations require the installation of lightning protection grounding during the flagpole installation.
