There are many types of diesel generator sets, mainly classified into the following eight categories:
(1) By engine fuel classification; they can be divided into diesel generator sets and composite fuel generator sets.
(2) Categorized by speed, they can be divided into high-speed, medium-speed, and low-speed diesel generator sets.
(3) By application conditions, they can be categorized into land-based, marine, trailer-mounted, and automotive diesel generator sets. Among them, land-based generator sets include mobile and fixed types. Land-based sets can further be divided into four types: standard, automated, low-noise, and low-noise automated.
(4) Classified by generator output voltage and frequency, they can be divided into AC generator sets and DC generator sets. Among them, the AC generator sets include medium frequency 40HZ and industrial frequency 50HZ. The rated voltage for small and medium-sized 50HZ industrial frequency generators is generally 400V; the rated voltage for large generators is usually between 6.3kV to 10.5kV.
(5) Categorized by the excitation method of synchronous generators: They can be divided into rotating AC excitation machines and stationary excitation machines.
1) Rotating AC excitation generator excitation system, including the AC excitation generator static rectifier excitation system followed by the brushless excitation system
2) Stationary excitation generator excitation systems, including voltage source stationary excitation generator systems, AC side series compound voltage source stationary excitation generator systems, and harmonic (or fundamental) auxiliary winding excitation systems
