Reversed Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower

I. Overview

Counterflow closed-loop cooling tower, named due to the opposite direction of the refrigerant and heat medium, with spray water flowing from top to bottom and air passing over at high speed from bottom to top.

Composed mainly of heat exchanger coils, spray irrigation water system, exhaust ventilation system, and frame casing.

II. Process Workflow

The spray pump draws water from the water tank, pumps it to the top of the heat exchanger coil, and sprays it uniformly over the outer surface of the pipe material in an umbrella shape through nozzles. A thin water film forms, with some of the water absorbing the heat from the cooled medium inside the pipe, turning from liquid to vapor. This evaporation carries away heat, while the internal medium of the pipe is cooled down or condensed into a liquid. The non-vaporized spray water then falls back into the spray water tank.

Exhaust System: The top fan of the tower is an intake type, drawing air from inside the tower and exhausting it outside. Cold, dry air outside the tower enters through the intake grille after filtering out debris, flows upward through the heat exchange coil at the bottom, carries away the evaporated water vapor, increases the humidity and temperature of the air, and is then exhausted outside by the fan.

In the spray trough, a float valve is installed. It automatically replenishes the supply when the water level is low, ensuring a consistent water level in the trough.

Electrical control, online monitoring of the cooled medium's outlet temperature, feedback to the data processing center, automatic control of the spray pump and fan start/stop based on the cooled medium temperature, achieving energy-saving objectives.


III. Reverse Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Tower Operation Principle

1. Internal Recirculation: The recycled water, after being heated and exchanged for temperature by the heat source equipment, enters the surface cooler. It undergoes inter-wall heat exchange through the cooler, and the cooled recycled water is then pumped back to the heat source equipment.

2. External Circulation: The spray water is transported from the tray to the spray system, where it sprays out and contacts the cooling coil for evaporation heat exchange. The humid steam is exhausted through the fan, and the non-vaporized spray water falls back into the tray, then pumped back to the spray system by the pump for another cycle.

IV. Features of Counter-Flow Closed Circuit Cooling Towers

1. Compact Structure: Compared to crossflow towers, the product structure of the downflow tower is more compact, featuring more coil surface area for heat dissipation, making it more suitable for cooling projects with smaller temperature differences and higher flow rates.

2. Overall System: Due to the smaller footprint of the cooling tower, combined with the circulation pump, it can be made into an integrated unit for easy mobility.

3. Application Scope: Due to the compact tower design, it can be placed in workshops, making it particularly suitable for medium-frequency power supply cooling and mechanical water jacket cooling. It is especially ideal for projects with small temperature differences, such as the cooling of a group of water source heat pump units.
