Calcium Formate

Calcium formate is an organic compound with the molecular formula C2H2O4Ca. It is used as a feed additive suitable for various animals, offering functions such as acidification, mold prevention, and antibacterial properties. In the industrial sector, it is also employed in concrete and mortar additives, leather tanning, or as a preservative.

Main Application

As a new type of feed additive.Calcium formate for weight gain, when used as an additive in piglet feed, can boost appetite and reduce diarrhea rates. Adding 1% to 1.5% calcium formate to piglet diets can significantly improve post-weaning production performance. German research found that adding 1.3% calcium formate to post-weaning diets can improve feed conversion by 7% to 8%, and adding 0.9% can reduce the incidence of piglet diarrhea. Zheng Jianhua (1994) added 1.5% calcium formate to the diets of 28-day-old weaned piglets, fed for 25 days, resulting in a 7.3% increase in daily weight gain, a 2.53% increase in feed conversion rate, and a 10.3% and 9.8% increase in protein and energy utilization, respectively, with a significant reduction in diarrhea. Wu Tianxing (2002) added 1% calcium formate to the diets of crossbred weaned piglets, resulting in a 3% increase in daily weight gain, a 9% increase in feed conversion rate, and a 45.7% decrease in diarrhea rate. Other注意事项: The use of calcium formate is effective before and after weaning due to the increasing hydrochloric acid secretion in piglets as they age; calcium formate contains 30% readily absorbable calcium, so attention must be paid to adjusting the calcium-phosphorus ratio when formulating feed.

2. Early-strength admixture for construction.Fast-setting agent, lubricant, and early strength agent for cement. Used in building mortars and various types of concrete to accelerate cement hardening and shorten setting time, especially during winter construction to prevent slow setting due to low temperatures. Allows for quick demolding, enabling the cement to reach early strength for use as soon as possible. Calcium formate applications: various dry-mixed mortars, various types of concrete, abrasion-resistant materials, flooring industry, feed industry, and leather-making. The dosage of calcium formate per ton of dry mortar or concrete is approximately 0.5~1.0%, with a maximum addition of 2.5%. The dosage of calcium formate gradually increases with decreasing temperatures, and even at 0.3-0.5% during summer, it produces a significant early strength effect.

3. Fertilizer raw materials.Calcium in calcium formate is easily absorbed by most plants, making it a favored calcium source among fertilizer manufacturers.
