1. Planting Time
The planting time for lotus root in the south differs from that in the north. Lotus root in the south is generally planted in February, while in the north, it is typically planted from April to May. Planting begins when the temperature reaches above 15℃ in March and April each year.
2. Planting Techniques

When planting lotus roots, dig planting holes first with dimensions of 33 cm in width, 130 cm in length, and 20 cm in depth. Gently plant the selected lotus tubers at a slight angle, with the root end facing upwards and exposed above the ground. Plant two main full lotus roots per hole, ensuring the root ends are not aligned in the same direction but are opposite to those in the adjacent row. Cover the roots with soil, about 5 cm thick. Leave an empty strip of 80-100 cm around the field embankment to prevent the lotus stems from extending into the embankment.
3. Cultivation and Weeding
Twenty days after planting and before the lotus leaves are fully open, it is necessary to cultivate and weed. One month after seedling emergence, the underground stems are spread throughout the field, so caution must be taken to avoid damaging them. After the lotus leaves form a canopy, prevent people and animals from entering the field to damage the leaves.
