The Ministry of Transport recently issued the "Design Code for Road Bridge Reinforcement" and the "Construction Technology Code for Road Bridge Reinforcement." These codes mark the first time in China that the design and construction technologies for road bridge reinforcement have been specified in a regulatory format. The codes will serve as a recommended standard in the road engineering industry and will be implemented starting October 1st.

The regulation reflects the development level of new technologies, materials, and processes in bridge reinforcement engineering both domestically and internationally in recent years. It also takes into account the advanced experience from domestic bridge reinforcement projects and considers the future development of this field, aiming to make it a technical regulation with Chinese characteristics and strong operability.
The responsible person explained that prior to the issuance of these two regulations, there were no technical specifications for bridge reinforcement in the field of highway engineering, and no interim technical provisions. Highway bridge reinforcement projects could only refer to the existing national and industry standards and regulations. Due to the特殊性 and riskiness of highway bridge reinforcement projects, as well as the varying requirements, objectives, and focuses of project subjects in the industry, these standards and regulations were not sufficient to fully meet the needs of bridge reinforcement in the highway sector, and there was no reliable basis for evaluating the reinforcement outcomes. The completion of these two regulations is of significant importance in establishing authoritative technical standards for the bridge reinforcement market in China.
