Copper-based alloys primarily composed of aluminum, containing iron and manganese elements, are high-strength and heat-resistant bronzes.
Introduction
Overview
Aluminum content generally does not exceed 11.5%, and sometimes iron, nickel, manganese, and other elements are added in appropriate amounts to further enhance performance. Aluminum bronze can be heat treated for strengthening, offering higher strength than tin bronze and better resistance to high-temperature oxidation.
High strength, excellent wear resistance. Used for high-strength bolts, nuts, copper sleeves, sealing rings, and wear-resistant components. Notable feature is its superior wear resistance.
Aluminum bronze containing iron and manganese has high strength and wear resistance. After quenching and tempering, it can achieve increased hardness. It boasts excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures, and good corrosion resistance in atmospheric, fresh, and seawater. Its machinability is fair, and it can be welded but not brazed easily. Its hot forming is also good. It is now mass-produced in our country.
Performance
Aluminum bronze boasts numerous excellent properties. It has high strength, hardness, and wear resistance, commonly used for manufacturing parts like gear blanks and threads. Aluminum bronze exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for creating corrosion-resistant components such as propellers and valves. It doesn't produce sparks under impact, making it ideal for spark-free tool materials. It has an excellent thermal conductivity and stable stiffness, which prevents sticking and scratching during the molding process for stainless steel plate heat exchangers, making it a new type of mold material. Aluminum bronze also demonstrates shape-memory effects, having developed into a shape-memory alloy. Aluminum bronze alloys are relatively inexpensive, serving as partial substitutes for expensive metals like tin bronze, stainless steel, and nickel-based alloys. Due to its superior characteristics, aluminum bronze is increasingly favored and plays a crucial role in both civilian and industrial applications.
Domestic Common Brand Numbers
QAL7: High tensile strength, hardness, and elasticity; excellent corrosion resistance in air, fresh water, seawater, and certain acids; suitable for hot and cold state pressure processing; can be welded by electric or gas welding; difficult to braze.
Application: Spring boxes require other elastic components with corrosion resistance.
QAL9-4: High strength, good tribological properties, and excellent corrosion resistance; suitable for hot working and welding, but not easily brazed.
Applications: High-strength, wear-resistant parts such as bearings, bushings, gears, turbines, etc.; also capable of manufacturing reducer outlets, flanges, flat lever arms, brackets, etc.
QAL10-4-4: Maintains stable mechanical properties below 400°C, exhibits good tribological properties, and has excellent corrosion resistance in air, fresh water, and seawater. It is suitable for heat treatment and welding, but is not easily brazed.
Use: High-intensity wear-resistant parts boxes for components operating below 400℃ such as bearings, sleeve bushes, gears, ball seats, nuts, flanges, etc.
