Due to limited space in old residential areas, it has been difficult to select and establish waste sorting stations. How to schedule the removal of bins and set up stations for waste disposal? Starting today, a series of "mini" waste sorting stations have officially been introduced, effectively addressing the construction issues for some community waste sorting stations. On the afternoon of the 24th, a reporter saw in the Li Huimin Community of Xinstreet, Nanjing, that a "mini" waste sorting station was directly built on the community's unused land. Some of these stations feature four designated bins for kitchen waste, other waste, recyclables, and hazardous waste, with the same functions as standard waste sorting rooms. Ms. Liu, a resident, said that if a standard垃圾分类 station were built, it would directly occupy some parking spaces in the community, exacerbating the parking issue. The construction of mini waste sorting stations would not lead to more conflicts. "I initially said the large station had 14 parking spaces. If those spaces are taken, who would be willing to give them up? No one wants to, so we will reflect on the fact that we cannot use the large ones and now opt for the smaller ones," Ms. Liu, a resident of the Nanjing community, explained.
Standard-sized waste sorting kiosks occupy at least 4.5m x 1m. In the construction of larger communities, it's relatively challenging to position these information kiosks. However, in some narrow, older neighborhoods, it's difficult to locate them due to traffic issues and their proximity to residential buildings. The Xuanwu District Urban Management Bureau has organized communications with relevant streets and kiosk vendors multiple times and has decided to establish mini waste kiosks through town hall meetings involving property management, residents, and public governance members. "Customized mini waste kiosks have been introduced to address the difficulty in promoting waste sorting in older neighborhoods. Currently, 8 communities have these kiosks, and more may be introduced in the future," said Zhu, the Deputy Director of the Construction and Urban Management Center of Xuanwu District, Nanjing City.
Currently, Xuanwu District has constructed 60 "mini" waste sorting stations in 53 residential areas, including the comprehensive building of Li Huimin at Xincun Street, Xicun at No. 88 Meiyuan Street, Zhu Qiao at No. 14, Garden Road at No. 19 Xuanwu Lake Street, and Jiangnan Apartment at Hongshan Street. "To date, a total of 60 such pavilions have been built across 53 communities in the district, with some pavilions facing difficulties in occupancy. We are now employing mobile collection and transportation methods to meet delivery needs. The community coverage rate for waste sorting has reached 98.6%, and it will be fully covered by the end of the month," said Yu Xiaojiang, Deputy Director of the City Administration and Urban Management Bureau of Xuanwu District, Nanjing.
Next, the urban management department will gradually provide "mini" sorting kiosks with washing facilities, bag-breaking equipment, and other convenience amenities to further facilitate residents in sorting and disposing of waste, ensuring a steady increase in participation and accuracy rates among residents in sorting and waste disposal.
