PowderMetallurgyIntroduction to Process and Products
Powder metallurgy products are precision-manufactured from metal powders such as iron, copper, and stainless steel powders, utilizing the sintering process after forming. The traditional process involves mixing powders, pressing, sintering, finishing, and post-processing (such as oil immersion, packaging, and machining). This means that the high-purity mixed powder is first placed in a mold and formed under pressure. The formed preforms are then sintered in a controlled atmosphere furnace at temperatures below the melting point of the base material, allowing for metallurgical bonding between the powder particles.
