316 and 316L stainless steel are molybdenum-containing stainless steels. The molybdenum content in 316L stainless steel is slightly higher than that in 316 stainless steel. Due to the molybdenum in the steel, this grade boasts superior overall properties compared to 310 and 304 stainless steels. Under high-temperature conditions, 316 stainless steel finds wide applications when the concentration is below 15% and above 85%. 316 stainless steel also exhibits excellent chloride corrosion resistance, making it commonly used in marine environments. 316L stainless steel... Corrosion resistance

316 stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steel, demonstrating excellent corrosion resistance during the pulp and paper production process. Additionally, 316 stainless steel is resistant to erosion from marine and corrosive industrial atmospheres.

Generally, there is little difference in the resistance to chemical corrosion between 304 and 316 stainless steel, although there are distinctions in certain specific media.

     The initial grade of stainless steel produced is 304, which is more susceptible to pitting corrosion under certain conditions. Adding an extra 2-3% molybdenum can reduce this sensitivity, giving rise to grade 316. Additionally, these extra molybdenum contents can also lower certain thermal organic corruptions.
