Mechanical voltage regulators, which use a servo motor to drive a carbon brush that moves on the sliding surface of the winding of a autotransformer, alter the ratio of Vo to Vi to achieve the adjustment and stabilization of the output voltage. The power of the voltage regulator for a stable frequency and voltage power supply ranges from hundreds to thousands of watts. It features a simple structure, low cost, and minimal output waveform distortion. 400HZ power supply
But due to the carbon brush sliding connector's tendency to produce electric sparks, it can lead to brush damage or even burnout and failure; plus, the voltage adjustment speed is slow.
We have modified the tap type by creating several fixed taps on the autotransformer. Using relays or thyristors (solid-state relays) as ten switches, the tap positions can be automatically changed to stabilize the output voltage. The advantages of this voltage stabilizer include a simple circuit, a wide voltage stabilization range (130V-280V), high efficiency (≥95%), and low cost. The drawbacks are the low voltage stabilization accuracy (8~10) and short lifespan. It is suitable for powering household air conditioners and aviation ground power supplies.
