To ensure safe operation during the use of aviation ground power units, the following safety guidelines should be observed:
1. The operation of ground power vehicles should be conducted by personnel who have undergone specialized training and possess independent work capabilities, and strictly adhere to the relevant regulations for the use of power vehicles.
2. It is advisable to avoid long-term exposure or use of aircraft ground power units in particularly humid environments. When not in use, they should be stored in a building or under a canopy. If they need to be placed outdoors, rain and snow protection should be implemented.
3. Always charge the battery when the ground power vehicle is not in use to extend its lifespan and ensure it is readily available.
Keep the socket and housing of the ground power vehicle clean to prevent foreign objects from entering the vehicle or contaminating the socket.
During an oil spill on the tarmac, ground power units shall not be started.
6. During use, pay attention to the protection of the power vehicle's cable to prevent it from being pulled too hard, cut (scratched) by sharp objects, or crushed.
When power trucks are supplying power to the aircraft, the driver must not leave their post.
When moving the ground power unit away from the aircraft, ensure the power plug is disconnected.
The power systems of current propeller aircraft come in both 24V and 12V configurations, thus, it is essential to confirm the supply voltage of the external power source prior to connection to prevent damage to on-board electronic equipment. While the diode in series with the relay coil of the external power source can provide reverse polarity protection, it is ineffective against overvoltage or undervoltage protection.
