During the installation of water supply and drainage pipelines, it is common to encounter connections between pipes of different materials, such as the connection between PE water supply pipes and PPR pipes. How should one operate when connecting pipes of different types?
When dealing with the connection of PEX piping and PPR piping, installers often opt for hot melt bonding to save time, directly heating the pipes for connection. However, this method is incorrect, as the melting points of the two materials differ, and their bonding performance is not good either. The connection strength is significantly lower compared to that of the same material.
The correct method for connecting PEX water pipes and PPR pipes is to use flanges. Flange connections avoid thermal fusion between materials of different compositions. PEX water pipes with small diameters can also be connected using threaded fittings. Only these two connection methods can ensure the connection strength between PEX water pipes and PPR pipes, thereby guaranteeing the quality of the construction project.
When performing connections ourselves, we can follow the above correct procedures. If hiring professionals, ensure they are operating correctly. If they opt for shortcuts with incorrect methods, we should promptly point this out to minimize financial waste.
