Slab Design, also known as raw material design. The design of medium and thick slab slabs is one of the important links in the production of medium and thick plates. The dimensions of the slabs used in the medium and thick plate rolling mill, i.e., the thickness, width, and length of the raw materials, directly affect the production efficiency of the mill, the yield of the slabs, and the mechanical properties of the steel plates.
The general steps for billet design are as follows: First, select the rolling method based on the finished product specifications and customer requirements, ensuring both compression ratio and width expansion ratio are met. Consider additional factors such as burn loss, cutting loss, thickness deviation, sampling, and fixed length, then determine the reasonable edge trimming and end trimming quantities, calculate the raw material weight, and finally select an appropriate billet from the billet stock based on a certain priority order.
