Petcoke Applications: Petcoke is a product formed through the thermal cracking process of heavy oil after the separation of light and heavy oils from crude oil distillation. Visually, it appears as irregularly shaped, black, blocky (or granular) material with metallic luster. The granules of petcoke have a porous structure, primarily composed of carbon, accounting for over 80% of its composition, with the remainder being hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and metals. It is mainly used to produce carbon products, such as graphite electrodes and anode arcs, for steelmaking, non-ferrous metal processing, and aluminum production; to manufacture silicon carbide products, like various grinding wheels, sandpapers, and abrasives; to produce calcium carbide for the production of synthetic fibers and acetylene; and also as a fuel.

Petcoke powder is the powdered form of petcoke, and its application in glass melting furnaces is relatively common, while its use in applications like ordinary boiler heating is less frequent. Petcoke powder has a calorific value twice that of coal, and if it can be used as a boiler fuel to replace coal or oil for producing steam and electricity or heating, it can turn waste into treasure, offering significant economic benefits. Despite the low price and high calorific value of petcoke and petcoke powder, their low volatile content and high carbon content make them difficult to ignite, which affects their application as an economic fuel in the boiler industry.

The innovative petroleum coke powder combustion system overcomes the limitations of existing technology and the inherent drawbacks of petroleum coke powder, making it simple and convenient to use petroleum coke powder as fuel to provide energy for boilers. The features of the new petroleum coke powder combustion system include: a pre-combustion unit, a boiler, and a post-treatment unit; the pre-combustion unit comprises a storage bin for petroleum coke powder, a pre-combustion chamber, and a conveying bin that transports the petroleum coke powder from the storage bin to the pre-combustion chamber; a star feeder with a quantitative feeding function is also provided between the storage bin body and the conveying bin, and the conveying bin is a pneumatic conveying bin connected to an air compressor with a gas storage tank at its rear end. It also includes an ignition device with a combustion tube that can slide into or out of the pre-combustion chamber; the practical new system employs a method of pre-igniting the petroleum coke powder in the pre-combustion chamber before introducing it to the boiler, effectively addressing the issue of high ignition points and difficulty in combustion. The system features a combined feeding method of a star feeder and a pneumatic conveying bin, which ensures effective atomization of the petroleum coke powder and optimal combustion. The combustion tube on the ignition device can be inserted or withdrawn as needed, fulfilling its ignition function while also extending its service life. The new system can also be used to upgrade existing coal or oil-fired boiler equipment, offering the advantages of low investment, rapid results, and high return on investment.

During operation, petroleum coke powder in the storage bin is fed at a certain rate to the conveying chain by a star feeder. The air compressor and gas storage tank at the rear end of the conveying chain (with the direction of petroleum coke powder as the reference, the same direction is forward, and the opposite direction is backward) supply compressed air to the conveying chain. Inside the conveying chain, the compressed air atomizes the petroleum coke powder (i.e., the powder mixes evenly with the compressed air and remains suspended). This atomized powder is then blown into the pre-combustion chamber, where the combustion tube ignites the powder. After ignition, the combustion tube retracts into the pre-combustion chamber to prevent the burning of the coke powder inside from affecting the tube. The combustion tube's inlet to the pre-combustion chamber is then closed to prevent interference with the combustion efficiency.

When the petroleum coke powder can continuously burn, open the channel between the pre-combustion chamber and the boiler combustion chamber, introduce the burning petroleum coke powder into the boiler combustion chamber to continue burning and release heat for the boiler's use. The smoke and dust produced from the combustion are treated and emitted after subsequent processing.

By utilizing a pre-combustion chamber to ignite the fuel before introducing it to the boiler for heat release, the high ignition point and difficulty in combustion of petcoke powder are effectively addressed. The combination of a star-type feeder and pneumatic conveying ensures an optimal degree of atomization and combustion efficiency for the petcoke powder. The combustion tube on the ignition device can be inserted or withdrawn as needed, fulfilling its ignition function while also effectively extending its service life.
