Transplanting the root systems of loose-shaped pine seedlings temporarily with moist soil is known as "transplanting by planting." The purpose is to prevent the roots from drying out or sustaining other damage. When pine seedlings are dug out, if they cannot be planted immediately, they must be temporarily transplanted. There are two types of transplanting: temporary and long-term. Temporary transplanting refers to the process after digging out the seedlings or before planting, also known as short-term transplanting; if the seedlings are dug out in autumn and planted in spring, the temporary planting required to survive the winter is called wintering transplanting or long-term transplanting.
The temporary artificial planting of Hongshengyuan's landscape pine is suitable for pine seedlings with a short planting time. When using this method, two points should be noted:
1. Selection of the artificial planting area. Artificial planting trenches should be dug in a shaded, well-drained location.
2. Specifications for the planting trench: The trench is typically 30-50 cm deep and wide, with the length determined by the number of shaped pine seedlings. Arrange the shaped pine seedlings in bundles within the trench, carefully cover the root systems and lower part of the seedling stems with wet soil, and compact the soil to prevent wind from passing through and water from escaping.
This wintering-off planting method is suitable for seedling picking in autumn. There are also two points to note for wintering-off planting.
1. Selection of the Seedling Area: Dig a trench perpendicular to the local prevailing wind direction in a well-drained, shaded, and wind-protected location before the soil freezes.
2. Specifications for the artificial planting trench. The trench size is determined based on the size of the shaping pine seedlings. For one-year-old seedlings, the trench depth and width should be 30-50 centimeters. When digging the trench, pay attention to making the windward side of the trench with a 45° inclined wall, and then evenly place the shaping pine seedlings on the inclined wall, allowing the seedling roots to spread out within the trench. Cover the trench with soil and compact it.
