Polyester yarn refers to yarn spun from polyester, a type of polymer fiber produced through spinning.
The fiber produced from ethylene glycol dibenzoate is commonly referred to as "PET" fiber, an abbreviation for "polyethylene terephthalate," its English name for the raw material. In China, it is commonly known as涤纶.
Pure polyester yarn is spun from polyester short fibers, which come in different categories. By length, there are cotton-type fibers, around 37 millimeters in length, medium-long fibers, between 51 to 57 millimeters, and wool-type fibers, between 75 to 105 millimeters.
Fine fibers, around 1.5D in diameter, are available, as well as coarse fibers at about 5D, with intermediate sizes around 3D. Of course, there are even finer options such as 1D, and ultra-fine fibers ranging from 0.1 to 0.5D.
Yarn is very fine, like 50s and 60s, spun from fine denier fibers, which makes it easy to spin evenly, with good slub and less fly. If the fibers are longer, they can enhance the holding force and improve the strength as well.
The yarn spun has a smooth texture, whereas coarse-count yarn feels rougher with a better fluffy sensation.
