Polyester yarn refers to yarns spun from polyester, a type of polymer fiber produced by spinning.

Fibers produced from ethylene glycol dibenzoate, commonly known as "PET" fibers, are abbreviated from the English name "polyethylene terephthalate." In China, they are colloquially referred to as涤纶.

Pure polyester yarn is spun from polyester short fibers, which are categorized by length, including cotton-type fibers, about 37mm in length, medium-long fibers, 51mm-57mm in length, and wool-type fibers, 75mm-105mm in length.

In terms of thickness, there are fine denier fibers around 1.5D, coarse denier fibers around 5D, as well as those in between at about 3D. Of course, there are even finer ones like 1D, and ultra-fine fibers ranging from 0.1 to 0.5D.
The yarn is extremely fine, akin to a 50s or 60s count, spun from fine denier fibers, which makes it easier to spin evenly, resulting in good yarn quality with fewer fly ends. If the fibers are longer, they enhance the holding power and offer improved strength.

The yarn spun has a delicate feel, whereas coarse yarn feels rougher with a better fluffy texture.
