How to singe? Singeing is a process that involves rapidly passing a fabric through the flame of a singeing machine or across a hot metal surface to remove the nap on the fabric's surface, resulting in a smooth, lustrous finish. The nap on the fabric surface is close to the flame and in a loose state, so it heats up and burns quickly. The fabric itself, being more compact and dense, and further from the flame, heats up more slowly, having already moved away from the flame or hot metal surface before reaching the ignition point, thus only the nap is burned away without damaging the fabric. During singeing, different fibers require varying singeing temperatures, so it is crucial to understand the thermal properties of different fiber materials. Caution: Too low a temperature (under-singeing) results in incomplete burning, with the nap forming into balls and causing color spots during dyeing. Too high a temperature or slow speed (over-singeing) leads to thermal shrinkage in the fabric, causing wrinkles and a stiff hand, as well as shrinkage in the width.
