Herringbone refers to the phenomenon where the coil size varies cyclically during the machine's operation cycle, resulting in a sparse and uneven pattern on the fabric surface. Generally, the likelihood of herringbone being caused by the raw material is low, and it is mostly due to the periodic uneven tension caused by the machine's mechanical wear and not being adjusted in a timely manner, thus leading to the herringbone pattern.
Reason for occurrence
Due to insufficient installation accuracy or severe wear caused by equipment aging, the horizontal and concentricity deviations of the round machine needle cylinder exceed the allowable tolerance. Common issues include excessive gaps between the positioning pin of the drive large gear disk and the machine frame positioning slot, leading to an unstable operation of the cylinder and severely affecting yarn feeding and bobbin removal. Additionally, aging equipment, mechanical wear, and increased longitudinal and radial vibrations of the main drive gear disk exacerbate the deviation in the cylinder's concentricity, causing fluctuations in yarn tension, abnormal coil sizes, and, in severe cases, hidden horizontal stripes on the grey fabric.
During the production process, foreign objects such as fly纱 are embedded in the variable-speed disk slide blocks of the yarn mechanism, affecting its roundness. This leads to abnormal speed of the synchronous belt, unstable yarn feeding amount, and the formation of hidden horizontal stripes.

The circular knitting machine utilizes a negative yarn feeding mechanism, which has the drawback of significant tension differences during the yarn feeding process, easily causing unexpected elongation of the yarn and inconsistencies in yarn feeding quantity, thereby forming hidden horizontal stripes.
