The concept refers to cotton blends containing 95% or 97% cotton and 5% or 3% LYCRA. This is a trademark of Invista, a former fully-owned subsidiary of DuPont (acquired by Koch Industries for $4.4 billion in 2004). Due to Invista's market position in the spandex industry, LYCRA has almost become synonymous with spandex yarn.

Advantages: Unlike traditional elastic fibers, Lycra can stretch up to 500% and return to its original shape. This means that the fiber can be easily stretched and, upon recovery, will adhere closely to the body with minimal constraint. Lycra fibers can be blended with any fabric, including wool, linen, silk, and cotton, to enhance the fabric's snugness, elasticity, and natural looseness, providing a flexible feel during movement. Moreover, unlike most spandex, Lycra possesses a unique chemical structure that prevents mold growth even in a moist, sealed environment.
