Identifying Cotton Yarn vs. Cotton Blended Yarn

Cotton yarn does not spark when burned, whereas man-made cotton yarn does spark and burns at a faster rate.

Cotton yarn, when moistened with water, does not see a decrease in strength, whereas man-made cotton yarn experiences a significant drop in strength when wet, with its wet strength being far less than its dry strength.

3. Place cotton yarn and man-made cotton yarn in a glass of water simultaneously. Due to the better permeability of man-made cotton yarn, it will sink to the bottom of the glass first, while the cotton yarn will take a bit longer (however, it's worth noting that cotton yarn that has just been pre-treated and not washed with alkali liquid to remove sizing will also quickly become moist and sink due to the alkali's permeative action). By combining all three methods, we can differentiate between cotton yarn and man-made cotton yarn.
