Steam yarn technology has been early applied in wool and wool-cotton blended spinning processes to address issues such as fabric instability and static electricity. With the development of the textile industry, the steam yarn process has expanded to involve cotton, hemp, and synthetic fibers.
The Steaming Process
Body preheating.
During the steaming process, water drop spots on the yarn are a common issue, which can cause problems with dyeing and other subsequent processes. Therefore, the preheating process for steaming is essential, especially for woolen yarn.
Vacuum sealing.
Lower the boiling point of water to produce the required low-temperature saturated steam.
Three: Heating.
Low-temperature saturated steam is permeated into the conical tube yarn. Each production process (spinning, twisting, weaving, etc.) induces tension effects on the yarn and fibers, which can lead to yarn entanglement. The stress relaxation within the molecular structure of man-made fibers causes shrinkage. Tension and entanglement can pose issues in subsequent processes.
Insulation.
The transition from vacuum to low-temperature saturated steam fully processes the entire spool of yarn, including the packaging materials. The moisture from the cold steam is transferred to the yarn, resulting in uniform moisture distribution and consistent yarn strength and friction values. Additionally, the heat treatment also relaxes the twist.
During the yarn production process, the moisture in the fibers continually evaporates, resulting in a cumulative reduction in humidity of over 4% from raw materials to skeins. Different spinning mills have varying yarn humidity indices; increasing machine speed leads to significant weight (moisture) loss. High temperatures and friction within the machine also evaporate moisture within the yarn, degrade its quality, and are detrimental to subsequent processing stages.
Five: Double vacuum extraction.
Some steam纱 machines feature a secondary vacuum design to ensure optimal yarn processing effects.
Six: Reheating and保温.
Ensure compensation for yarn weight loss and improve yarn quality.
Moisture conditioning (steaming) of yarn, located after winding and before storage, is preferable before delivery if the yarn storage time is extended. Proper packaging during transportation, such as tightly sealed wrapped bobbins or yarn cones, can maintain the yarn's moisture. Moreover, both knitting and weaving can benefit from moisture conditioning before yarn use. Research on weaving supply and demand shows that yarn treated with moisture is superior to untreated (dry yarn). When using moisture-treated yarn for weft weaving, the number of stops on the loom is significantly reduced, the yarn strength and elongation at break are improved, pilling is reduced, and weaving efficiency increases by 2%. In knitting, there is a noticeable decrease in fly yarn.
In the trade, buyers do not accept additional markups, and an increase in yarn weight translates directly to increased profits. The payback period for the initial investment in yarn moisture treatment equipment is typically less than a year, and for cotton yarn, even less than six months. Moreover, the increasing demand for quality in export trade necessitates a continual improvement in yarn quality. Thus, yarn moisture treatment has become an essential part of modern textile processes, compensating for yarn weight loss and enhancing yarn quality.
