Effective steps to prevent the formation of permanent creases, known as "dead creases," in single-sided cotton knitted fabrics involve a wet processing step for the cotton knitted greige. There are three specific methods.

Prior to the fabric being subjected to irregular tension and pressure, it is soaked in water in a completely relaxed state, allowing the fibers to swell and the fabric to contract freely and evenly. The densely contracted fabric remains relatively stable due to the inter-fiber bonding forces and the interfilament entanglement resistance, preventing the formation of permanent creases during subsequent processing. For instance, in a multi-functional full-relaxation continuous bleaching machine, the unit where the grey fabric passes through is a relaxation crease-prevention machine that allows the fabric to be soaked in water in a completely relaxed state. Here, the fabric contracts and becomes dense through the swelling of the fibers.

Prior to the fabric being subjected to irregular tension and pressure, it undergoes wet processing under regular and appropriately sized external forces (including both lateral and longitudinal), resulting in a uniform and orderly change in fabric shape due to the swelling of fibers from moisture absorption. Some low-tension continuous scouring machines used for the processing of flat-width knitted fabrics utilize this method to prevent the formation of wrinkles.

Prior to the fabric being subjected to irregular tension and pressure, it undergoes an irreversible fiber swelling treatment under regular external forces, a process known as mercerization. Mercerized cotton knitted fabrics do not produce so-called dead folds during the rope-drawing, bleaching, and dyeing processes, and exhibit higher dimensional stability post-mercerization. During a single wet processing of cotton knitted greige goods, the fabric's shape deformation caused by fiber water absorption and swelling, as well as the resultant impact on dimensional stability and fabric surface effects, can be mitigated. The method involves placing the fabric in a completely relaxed state in water, allowing the fabric to shrink and condense freely and evenly through fiber swelling, thus achieving both good dimensional stability and a smooth fabric surface.

The silk finishing process, which causes irreversible swelling of cotton fibers, plays a crucial role in the shaping of cotton knitted fabrics. Cotton knitted fabrics that have been silk finished not only offer high dimensional stability but also resist wrinkling and creasing even under significant external forces (pressure or tension).

We emphasize the importance of post-shrinking finishing techniques. Superfeed shrink resistance technology (including superfeed expansion, superfeed drying, and superfeed calendering, etc.) is not the entire scope of shrink resistance techniques. Established cotton machinery fabric shrink resistance technologies, such as rubber blanket pre-shrinkage technology, should be widely promoted and applied in the shrink resistance finishing of knitted fabrics.
