A flame arrester is a safety device designed to prevent the spread of flames from flammable gases and vapors. Typically installed in pipelines conveying combustible gases or on ventilated tanks, it is a device that prevents the propagation of flames (deflagration or detonation). It consists of a flame arrester core, the flame arrester housing, and accessories.
Fire extinguishers are also commonly used on pipelines transporting flammable gases. If flammable gases are ignited, the flame can spread throughout the entire pipeline network. To prevent such dangers, fire extinguishers should also be employed. They can also be used on pipelines with open flame equipment to prevent backfire accidents. However, they cannot prevent the open flame combustion of flammable gases and liquids.
